1980s HOME VIDEO CAMERAS

I realize that much of this technology is obsolete but -- believe it or not -- there are hobbyists out there who enjoy playing with this stuff.

Home video has come a long way since the earliest of these cams, but I like to think that someone out there won't mind finding a use for these vidicams - I'd rather have them used up then send them to a recycler.

The 3230 with most of the controls visible.
Beneath the top handle is a pop up control panel that allows access to the effects and title generator.

PANASONIC
WV-3230
  PRO-LINE
COLOR VIDEO CAMERA

The last of the classic home video cameras that still used tube technology! This was it. Before the introduction of the CCD cameras, home video manufacturers tried one last time to make something a cut above the typical home video cam.

Panasonic produced this camera -- the WV3230 -- using what they called the Newvicon tube. The Newvicon was a cut above the typical old vidicon tube -- it did have a better-than-usual image quality in low light -- but, like all tube cameras in their day it still suffered from lag.

This baby still works. I tested it recently using a VCR that has a built in video camera connector.

Update: The viewfinder has apparently failed. All it shows now is a white vertical line. However, the camera works fine otherwise -- when plugged into a tv or monitor it presents as good an image as it ever has.

The 3230 on-board features:
  • Auto / Manual iris controls
  • 350 lines horizontal resolution
  • 10 - 120mm smooth motorized zoom with macro
  • Effects and titles generator
  • Color compensation controls
  • Indoor / Oudoor light balence switch
  • White Balence switch
  • Detachable stereo microphone
 This kit includes:
  • RCA Leather case
  • Owner's Manual "Operating Instructions"

PANASONIC WV-3110
COLOR VIDEO CAMERA

Mid 1980s video technology!

The WV-3110 was a classic home video camera that still used Vidicon tube technology! Tube technology was never all that great in low light situations -- and like most tube cameras the 3110 does suffer from light lag.

This 3110 is still in working condition. I tested it recently using a VCR had the built in camera connector (powered from the VCR).

The 3110 on-board features:

  • Auto/Manual Iris controls
  • 240 lines horizontal resolution
  • Indoor-Outdoor light balence switch
  • White balence switch
  • AGC on-off switch
This kit includes:
  • Owner's Manual
  • Original Box

    SOLD -- NO LONGER AVAILABLE

PANASONIC
WV-3203
POWER SUPPLY

A power supply for video cameras circa the mid 1980s. The 3203 works with both the 3230 and the 3110 Panasonic Cameras listed for sale above -- and maybe some other models as well.

Outputs: composite video, mono audio, and camera remote/pause connectors.
Includes Manual

PIONEER CLD--D504
LASER DISK PLAYER

Includes:
  • Owner's Manual -- operating instructions
  • Remote control
  • Karaoke Microphone
  • Pioneer Lasar Karaoke Sample disk
  • Pioneer laserkaraoke catalog vol. 15
  • original box
As complete as when originally purchased ..
... just not brand new.
One minor issue -- common to these machines I am told. Often the loading mechanism fails. Generally, just reloading it and pressing the play button seems to get it to finish properly.

PCA-V9

10 Pin Porta Cam
VHS TO BETA ADAPTOR

Most classic consumer vidicon cameras used the "VHS" connector so to connect to the 10pin Betamax connector, one required this adapter cable.
