Movies on Betamax -- Page Four

BETAMAX VIDEO TAPES FOR SALE

The BETA format is (well.... was) the best video tape format ever to be marketed.
Sony ceased manufacturing consumer BETA recorder-players for the American market in 1993
and completely ceased production of Betamax machines in 2002.

My ancient 15 year old Sony SLHF-900 finally crapped out in early 2000
which is really messed up because I liked my Betamax!

Reluctantly, I've decided to say bon voyage to my Beta collection.

So, if you are a Beta-phile and are looking for pre-recorded video tapes (amongst other things) in this format -- READ ON!

2012!
The βeta format is still alive -- on the net!

$1.00 per tape!

Since I first put up this site, I have sold more than 2/3 of my Betamax tape collection. Beta is indeed live and well on the internet.

About once a year, between January and March, I update this site by removing the Sold items making space for other sale items and images.

I will sell all these betamax videos individually -- in groups of two or more -- or the entire collection!

They're going fast!

As of this update -- January 2012 -- that's less than 60 commercial tapes! Yes, they are going fast!

Just click "e-mail me" if you want to buy any or all of the remaining Beta library as is.

I'm also selling my "off-air" Beta tapes. Yes, there are recorded TV shows on them, but I cannot sell them as anything except "Blank Tape." Click the link: "Blank Beta Tapes"
Also: Other Beta items I come across are for sale under "Beta Sloppy Seconds."
Scroll down to click any of those links.

Buyer will assume shipping and handling costs.

I accept:
Personal Bank Checks -- domestic U.S. buyers only

Money orders -- including Western Union Money Orders
or
Cash -- U.S. dollars only.

(All international transactions are to be done in U.S. dollars only)

Sorry, NO credit cards and NO PayPal.

Depending on the number of tapes you order, and the combined weight, shipping is actually cheaper if you buy in bulk.

Below are links to 9 pages of Beta format video tapes. These are all commercially released features, Made-for-TV movies, Music Videos, Cartoons, Comedy, Special Interest, Documentaries, and (of course) Kung Fu movies.

Titles are in alphabetical order and include reviews (or references) and a small picture of the actual box.
I recommend to viewers and potential buyers to also reference the Internet Movie Database (imdb.com) for alternate reviews of these features. My reviews are highly biased and subjective. I could be wrong.

Several of these videos no longer reside in their original boxes. Where noted they are protected by sturdy translucent white or solid brown clamshell cases.

FEATURE FILMS

MADE-FOR-VIDEO FEATURE RELEASES

star struck box

STAR STRUCK
1982
(Australia)
Jo Kennedy
Ross O'Donovan

Delightful Aussie musical comedy about a young girl (Kennedy) who wants to become a singing star, and her scrappy cousin (O' Donovan) who manages her.

SOLD
No Longer Available

street music box

STREET MUSIC
1981
E. G. Daily

Early E. G. Daily film shot, if memory serves, in San Francisco. Daily plays the street singer of the piece, but the story revolves around the residents of an old hotel that is about to be demolished.

streets of fire box

STREETS OF FIRE
1984
Michael Pare
Amy Madigan
Diane Lane
Deborah Van Valkenburgh
Willem Dafoe
Bill Paxton
E. G. Daily

Strange film that's part action, part musical directed by Walter Hill. Mercenary (Pare) goes ballistic when his girlfriend, a singer, is kidnapped by a gang. May well be remembered for production design but this feature is often underrated and overlooked.

SOLD
No Longer Available

stunt man box

STUNT MAN
1980
Peter O'Toole
Steve Railsback
Barbara Hershey

Director Richard Rush made this highly recommended masterpiece. It should have won at least 4 academy awards. O'Toole plays Eli Cross, a movie director with a vicious streak. Cameron (Steve Railsback) is a Vietnam Vet on the run from the cops. Forced to become a stuntman, Cameron falls for the leading lady (Hershey) but the cops are still too close and Cameron -- who seems to be suffering from PTSD -- thinks Cross is trying to kill him too.

sure thing box

SURE THING
1985
John Cusack
Daphne Zuniga

Another early John Cusack comedy. If John boy can make it from the East coast college to California by a certain time, he is guaranteed to get laid. Daphne Zuniga plays the ride-sharing bitch who nearly ruins his potentially fulfilling sex life.
time bandits box

TIME BANDITS
1981
John Cleese
Sean Connery
Michael Palin
Shelley Duvall
dir. Terry Gilliam

Monty Python alumnus Terry Gilliam created this epic adventure film about a young boy who accidently joins a band of dwarves as they jump from time-period to time period seeking treasure.

trinity is still my name box

TRINITY IS STILL MY NAME
1975
Terrance Hill
Bud Spencer

Italian western farce starring that skinny guy (Hill) and that fat dude (Spencer).
turk 182 box

TURK 182
1985
Timothy Hutton
Robert Culp
Robert Urich
Kim Cattrall

(comes in clear white plastic clamshell)

Under-rated movie about the brother of an injured firefighter who goes on a crusade to get back at the dirty politics that unfairly screwed his brother out of his disability payments. Given current events, it seems this film is due for a revival.

utilities box

UTILITIES
1981
Robert Hays
Brooke Adams

Hays plays a social worker who hates the big utilities. He runs into the law in the form of Brooke Adams and they get all sentimental and squishy.
